When you think of the Greatest of All Time in basketball, would you say LeBron James? Fair enough — I love Bron, but what about women? What about the amazing Black women who are incredible athletes and have changed the game for years to come. I love my Black women in excellence, and basketball is just a cherry on top of the accolades they accomplish.
One of my favorite examples is the first woman in the WNBA to dunk. Lisa Leslie is a former player for the Los Angeles Sparks, a model, and a coach. She’s a legend with two back-to-back championships, three MVPs, and countless other accomplishments. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s amazing.
Another honorable mention and one of my favorites is Skylar Diggins. She has multiple accolades in the WNBA, USA Basketball, and at the collegiate level. Her list goes on and on, but one of my favorites is her feature in Vogue while also excelling as a professional athlete.
These two women are just a few of the Black women making history in basketball. There are so many, and they continue to grow. In other words, these icons of the court are living proof of something we should never forget: Black Women, Queens of Excellence.
